Song in the Sea
Elise Bailey, biologist and dolphin researcher, has set out on an amazing journey to crack the communication code of the cetaceans. Cetaceans, which are dolphin, whales, and porpoises, utilize a unique form of sound called echo location. They focus sound waves out the “melon”, an oil filled gland at the top of the head. These sound waves bounce back to the animals giving them a three dimensional holographic image. Dolphins are truly communicating through acoustic imagery and holographic projection. This gives us a fantastic opportunity to finally see what it is the cetaceans have been talking about.
Elise has established remarkable friendships with dolphins all over the world, and in doing so, has experienced a buzzing social community that involves intricate details of language in every sense of the word. It is time for humans to begin to see how exceptional cetaceans are, and how important it is for us to learn how to listen.
Elise and her team have set the parameters for a groundbreaking project that will do just that, listen. The team is a fantastic mix of scientists, researchers, physicists, mathematicians, sound engineers, musicians, and of course, the cetaceans. The adventure has only begun and the world will see this unique dialogue play out on screen.
As the progress of this project unfolds, the world will get a magical glimpse of a holophonic world that until now has only been encountered by a very few. There is a song in the sea, and it is being sung by amazing animals all over the world, and for the first time, in this ground breaking documentary/reality series, we will not only hear what the cetaceans are saying, we will see it!
